Paulus Potter was one of the finest Dutch painters of his day and he was well known for his animal paintings. The Piebald Horse is one of his accredited paintings in which he painted the horse with great attention. The word piebald stands for the combination of large patches of dark hair blending with the white hair grown on the pink skin of the animal.
In this painting, The Piebald Horse, the painter paid minute attention to the physical details of the animal, such as the contrasting colors of its hairy coat, shiny mane, sparkling eye, and the sleek and well-defined contours of its immaculately nourished body.
