Product Description
Johan Barthold Jongkind - The Towpath - 1864.
A towpath is a path close to a river where horses or other animals walk towing barges. The towpath in view here is probably a scene from the painter's home country of Holland. The closeness of the trees and the contrast between the colors of the sky and the water attracts the viewer's eye. The singleton horse carrying a person is seen in the center of the painting, telling a story. Painted in 1864, this painting of towpath is one among many of Jongkind's etchings and paintings. The painter's signature can be seen on the lower right of the painting. The painting hangs in the National Gallery of Art.
