Product Description
A Bashi-Bazouk, 1875, Charles Bargue, French. Historical artwork in the public domain. Paintings by masters from the golden age of classical art.
The figure depicted here is a mercenary of the Ottoman Empire. The Turkish term for him is bashi-bazouk, which translates as “headless.” These men fought for plunder, an association that gave Bargue license to employ his virtuosic painting technique to paint fineries such as silk garments and narghile, or water pipe.
Charles Bargue came up with an art course called 'Cours de dessin' with Jean Leon Gerome that practices classical realism style of paintings. He travelled northern African nations during which he drew people with elaborate details of clothing and facial features.
Designed for indoor use, custom stretched canvas prints are made from treated cotton - providing the smoothest of matte surfaces for exceptional design vividity.
